Last night, 12-11-23, some of our interior firefighters practiced their skills of bailing out a window of an upper-floor building.
This technique provides firefighters another way of escaping if conditions deteriorate and their initial entry point is compromised.
This may be needed during extreme fire conditions, but let's hope it is never needed.

On Monday 10-23-23, Harris Hill drilled with our mutual aid partner Clarence Center on second floor fires at the Amherst Tower. Fire attack rescue as well as ventilation scenarios were practiced.

On On Monday 9-18-2023, night firefighters had the opportunity to train with our brothers and sisters from Main-Transit Fire Department. Crews from both companies practiced extrication skills using battery operated and hydraulic extrication tools. Firefighters also practiced vehicle stabilization using Paratech struts and airbags. Training with our mutual aid partners is vital in what we do! The familiarization with other departments equipment and firefighters helps us work better together on the fire ground.

This past Friday and Saturday, september 15th and 16th, Harris Hill hosted a two day school bus rescue class. With having 4 elementary schools in our district and multiple schools in our surrounding mutual aid districts, this training was invaluable for our firefighters to learn. The two day training consisted of practicing techniques to safely access and remove patients who may be trapped/ injured in both the bus, as well as passenger vehicles. Harris Hill was joined by firefighters from Main-Transit Fire Department and Bowmansville Volunteer Fire Association. Thank you to NYS Office of Fire Prevention & Control (OFPC) for allowing us to host this class and Fire & Rescue Products of Harrisburg, LLC for providing us additional tools!

GRIT: Getzville Rapid Intervention Training
Getzville opens their doors to any firefighter interested in a two-day Rapid Intervention Training program that includes hands-on skill sessions, live fire, realistic scenario based training evolutions and an incident command system training. This program has proven over the years that it is as real as it gets. A rapid intervention team is a dedicated crew of firefighters that is assigned for rapid deployment to rescue lost or trapped firefighters. The training consists of numerous training evolutions such as: Basement rescues, below grade rescues, collyers mansion, emergency air procedures, enlarged openings, fire development, forcible entry, mask confidence, Pittsburgh drill, emergency lifting and a maze.
