The Harris Hill Volunteer Fire Company recently completed its second annual Flag Retirement Ceremony on Sunday. When American flags get torn, worn out or faded, it is supposed to be respectfully retired in the appropriate way, it just isn’t acceptable to throw it away. This year approximately 670 flags of many different sizes were retired, said Mike Williams who has spearheaded this program and is an active member. The fire company accepts flags for the retirement event each year from Flag Day (June) until just after Independence Day (July).
